One of the selection criteria is interest. It implies a certain emphasis made in the work. Interest is also a thought or even a style of writing. At its core, interest is what catches in a work.
By what principle do children choose books – for love of animals or fantastic, fictional locations. The same principle applies to adults. If a person is a romantic by nature – it is better to stop his choice on a romantic novel, if he loves science fiction more – excessive overload with a love line is useless.
The interest of books, as if the color of books is their main characteristics, but it is difficult to predict in advance which work will be really interesting. If there is a need to choose a book for a child, it is better to immediately ask about preferences, certain interests.
The modern engine of progress – reviews. There is nothing better than recommendations. On various resources where books for sale or their electronic versions are offered, there is often a section with reviews.
How they can help:
- people of similar interests comment on the book of the genre;
the reviews often highlight the main problems of the work – the protracted plot, boring narration and intricacy of events;
- recommendations will also help you choose similar works by other authors.
Reviews are not a final decision. People, even those with common interests, are different, as is their perception of the work. Ratings and recommendations are more of a hint than a final verdict.
A similar conclusion is drawn from official reviews. They serve as an estimate, but also as a subjective opinion. A new novel is often misjudged: there are dozens of examples in world literature of how a critically underappreciated novel ends up as a bestseller.
Such a selection criterion as necessity arises when a person simply needs to familiarize himself with certain literature. There are many reasons for the need, like learning or having certain life experiences.
If you need to find a book for learning, it is better to choose more recent material – the novelty involves updating old data, studies, figures. For training, it is also better to choose authors who are competent in the issue or field.
To love or not to love to read – the choice is made by each person. No one has the right to force you to love reading. A similar reverse effect can be observed in children: the more parents force them to read, the stronger the aversion to reading in adulthood. A similar effect is also observed in adults when the next bestseller appears – advertising literally gives the idea that reading such a work is necessary.
Real cases where reading books brings visible benefits:
- educational literature provides knowledge that in the future can help, help get out of a difficult situation;
- psychological books – a separate type of literature that helps to correct real problems in the psycho-emotional sphere;
- educational literature – it is similar to educational literature, but has a narrower profile, for example, cookbooks or gardening instructions.
Any book brings subjective benefit, according to the reader himself: for example, a detective will not help him in any way with real advice, but will teach him observation or a subtle perception of certain situations.
The criterion of readability refers to the writing style of a work. Readability to a greater extent becomes a hostage of the author. How is readability defined:
- general presentation of history, simplicity of sentences;
- the language used, its stylization – books about other eras with the preservation of the authentic speech of the characters are more
- difficult to read, they contain a lot of incomprehensible words;
structure – books with large chapters are more difficult to read.
The oversaturation of the plot with heroes, rapidly changing locations creates too many questions, making it difficult to read quickly.
Another reason for difficult reading, low readability is confusing time frames. Many authors use the chronology trick to keep the story interesting. Frequent change of time frame creates confusion, confuses the reader.
Readability is also difficult if the literature is not selected according to age – the child may have problems understanding the terms or the adult style of narration.
